Regenerating the Hauraki Gulf
Hidden from view below the surface, the Hauraki Gulf/TÄ«kapa Moana/Te Moananui-a-Toi is rapidly deteriorating. Over the decades, the urbanisation of its catchment area, farming and fishing practices, and climate change, have all taken their toll.
Auckland Foundation estabilshed the Hauraki Gulf Guardians programme in response to the urgent work required to ensure the Gulf is regenerated and resilient to future challenges. We identify areas of highest impact using evidence based research and an expert advisory panel to create long-term, synergetic partnerships. Through our activities to inspire and encourage generosity we secure funding for immediate and future needs.
The Work
The organisations and programmes that we work alongside and support are carefully chosen by our Advisory Panel of experts.
Each of these panelists holds a deep knowledge on the Hauraki Gulf / TÄ«kapa Moana, and they ensure that the projects that Auckland Foundation supports with for our Hauraki Gulf Guardians programme is aligned with the goals we have set out to make a positive and impactful change to the regeneration of the Gulf.
