Auckland Regional Parks Legacy Fund

Established in 2010, Friends of Regional Parks (FORParks) plays a vital role in advocating for and protecting Auckland’s outstanding natural landscapes.

Continuing a proud Auckland tradition dating back 125 years, environmental gems such as Long Bay, Ambury and the Waitakere Ranges are safeguarded to be enjoyed for generations to come - thanks in part to FORParks' work promoting and caring for our regional parks network.

However, this passionate group's next challenge was how to preserve this legacy for the future, and ensure that Auckland's regional parks network continues to grow.

The answer? A long-term endowment fund that anyone who cares about Auckland's regional parks can contribute to.

The Auckland Regional Parks Legacy Fund was established under Auckland Foundation last year, and FORParks Chair Bronwen Turner says they are excited about the possibilities the fund brings.

"The beauty of the fund is that anyone can contribute, from very small to large donations. Even land can be gifted! From individuals to companies and trusts, all contributions to the fund will have an impact."

"Our goal is to build a financial base that over the long term can help purchase and develop new regional parks."

"But it’s also set up to enable short-term fundraising efforts, which will help us to buy and open parks to the public more quickly."

Aucklanders who have already contributed to the fund include Helen, who has a strong appreciation of the importance of regional parks after her family grew up enjoying them; and Jean, who contributed as a means to thank current regional park volunteers and guarantee their work endures well into the future.
